opera by definition education aims to introduce young people
aged between 6 and 11 to opera with a new adaptation of Mozart’s
The Magic Flute.
This production, which was especially commissioned
for a family audience and originally created and produced by
Glyndebourne Education, was premiered at The Brighton Festival in 2009.
The staging of this production will give the children an opportunity to
interact with the story and to experience the exhilaration of
watching a live performance with Glyndebourne Opera singers
accompanied by flute and piano.
Part pantomime and part fairy tale, The Magic Flute conjures a cast of
plucky heroes searching for truth and the enlightenment of the new day.
Scenery, costumes, props and an integral lighting design support their
epic journey.
Using only Mozart's music, arranged by Dominic Harlan, with a new and
intimate approach to the story by Brendan Murray, the performers will
retell this bewitching tale with a little help from the audience.
