Most people are touched by cancer in some way throughout their lives and
many people have to endure the worries and concerns alone.
Tunbridge Wells now has its very own highly accessible, no appointment
necessary drop-in centre right in the middle of town providing a haven for
cancer patients, their relatives and carers - a welcoming centre, a place of
comfort and support providing a welcoming atmosphere where cancer patients,
their relatives and friends or carers can come for support, advice,
complementary therapies, counselling or just a cup of tea and a friendly
chat.
The inspiration for this centre has come from Polly Taylor and Jacki Fogg
and along with the support of the community, the local NHS Trust and the
ever increasing support from local businesses and the public their vision
has became a reality.
The centre is named after Dr David Pickering a local oncologist who died
suddenly in 2002. It is run entirely by volunteers, including 13
complementary therapists and councillors.
opera by definition is pleased to announce its support of this charity by
raising awareness through marketing in the world of classical music and
performing arts of the new drop in centre in Monson Road, Tunbridge Wells.
The centre will be open from November 26th 2007 on Tuesdays and Fridays
and is located behind the ASK restaurant.
The Pickering Cancer drop-in centre is a registered charity.
